RESOURCES

Rise for Architecture is a national, volunteer-led movement

We are passionate about designing healthy environments for all Canadians. Research shows well-designed buildings create sustainable, socially equitable, and inspiring communities. And yet, in Canada, we haven’t always considered this. We aim to change that. How? Through a national conversation that helps shape better spaces for everyone.

Doors Open Waterloo Region

Doors Open has been a staple event in our Region since 2003. On the third Saturday in September, Waterloo Region opens its doors to curious residents and visitors alike – attendees can tour noteworthy buildings, interesting places and heritage sites in Waterloo Region, many of which are not regularly open to the public. Doors Open Waterloo Region creates meaningful qualitative experiences, delivered through storytelling, in celebration of our diverse community culture, heritage and architecture.

For more information visit the Doors Open website.

Self-Guided Walking Tours and Virtual Heritage Resources

The Architectural Conservancy of Ontario (ACO) has compiled a list of walking tours in Ontario, some created by their own branches and others created by municipalities or other organizations. The tours are a way to enjoy communities and the built environment in a safe, distanced manner, until we are able to gather in groups again. Some of the tours are virtual, so you can enjoy them from home. For more information visit the ACO website.
