About the Event
The Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery invites you to the return of our Culture Talks series, featuring Matthew Hickey from Two Row Architect.
Matthew Hickey is Mohawk, Wolf Clan, from the Six Nations of the Grand River. Receiving his Masters of Architecture from the University of Calgary and his Bachelor of Design from the Ontario College of Art and Design, Hickey’s cultural background has a significant impact on his work and visionary approach. Practicing architecture at Two Row Architect, located in Ohsweken, he oversees design and development for the firm, which focuses on Indigenous design in architecture, landscapes, and installations all over Turtle Island.
Art being in his blood, Hickey serves on the Board for Artscape Toronto Inc. and teaches at Ontario College of Art and Design University. Hickey will speak about Indigenous ideologies in architectural form that mesh local traditional knowledge with the environment and current building technologies.
Our 2021-22 Culture Talks series continues to present prominent speakers whose professional practices embrace the integration of art in architecture and the environment.
